Senior Direct Mail Data Processor

 

Senior data processing position with extensive experience in database management, data manipulation, USPS postal regulations / DMM required.  This position will perform all the daily functions of a level one and two operator.  In addition to those functions, this position will process complex data jobs, merge/purge, suppressions, difficult file and output processes.  This position requires ongoing learning of DMM Domestic Mail Manual postal regulations including all classes of mail used by the company. Support of level one and two operators, some interactions with outside sales, multiple daily interactions with inside customer service representatives.

This position also requires someone who can juggle multiple priorities and projects at the same time while not being able to complete them from start to finish, but picking them up mid-stream, and working on them for the next phase or stage of production. This position will mentor, support and assist all level one and two operators. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with off the shelf industry software to provide the best possible postage outcomes within the project parameters. 
  • Client database and data file manipulation and quality control checks
  • Database file structure setup and standardization to import into off the shelf software
  • Merge appending and duplicate purge setup and processing
  • Presort data base files for best possible postage rates
  • Presort files using and following postal regulations
  • Output inkjet ready files using delimited text formats
  • Use Postal Explorer website and DMM to prepare presorts and process data files matching mail piece design
  • Process complex data files, complex processing software functions using multiple file types and formats
  • Implement and support procedural changes and directives from upper managers
  • Adhere to and enforce production schedules and deadlines; proactive notification of stakeholders of any risks or obstacles that will impact due dates
  • Support sales and customer service with postal regulations
  • Back up the senior processor and manager for mail panel approval
  • Process job tickets / work orders from start to finish
  • Communicate with internal stake holders as required on work orders
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Extreme attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple issues at once, and ability to solve problems
  • Experience with general database concepts such as importing, exporting, file types, file delimiters, headers, metadata
  • USPS, DMM, postal regulations knowledge
  • Outgoing personality
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English

Computer Skills

  • MS - Microsoft Outlook for email, Excel, and Word proficient
  • Mid-level knowledge of database system or data manipulation
  • Experience with raw data file delimiters such as comma, tab, or flat files a plus, but not required
  • Experience with importing and exporting data base files in and out of different programs
  • Highly skilled in PC and MS Windows operating system
  • Proficient in using the Internet
  • Type 60 words per minute or greater

  • Ability to use a ruler or measuring device using standard or metric units.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to make sound judgements regarding planning and customer satisfaction issues.

Physical Demands

  • Use hands and fingers for computer typing and writing.
  • Sitting at a computer desk most of the day. Some walking required. Some lifting of boxes up to 40-50 pounds.

Environment

  • Office setting with climate control conditioning.
  • Short walks through a warehouse manufacturing environment where temperature ranges cool in winter to hot in the summer.
  • Majority of this job requires being at a desk and in front of a bank of computer screens for approximately 80-90% of the day.
