Pre-Press Supervisor

Print NW is currently seeking a Pre-Press Supervisor to join our team.

This position is: Hourly; Full Time

Position Purpose:  The Prepress Supervisor acts as a working supervisor and trainer over the Prepress Technician team. This position requires an understanding of the big picture and inner workings of the Prepress team, improving efficiencies within the department. They will supervise and coordinate the Prepress Department workflow and personnel to utilize professional publishing, imaging, and prepress software and equipment to design publications, create graphics, and prepare publications for production on conventional offset printing presses, Wide Format and digital presses.

 

This is a working supervisor position.

 

Essential Functions:  As a working supervisor, the Prepress Supervisor is responsible for the daily activities of all Prepress Technicians. Customer Service (internal and external) and problem-solving play big roles for this supervisor. 

 

The Prepress Technician pre-flights, troubleshoots, prepares and imposes files for output and finish processing. The Prepress Technician is responsible for the processing of files as they move from planning to production. This includes file downloading, file preflight, file processing and ripping, color and type corrections, proofing, generating impositions and printing. Please note, this is not a design/creative role.  This is a technical role.  We are looking for someone good at editing existing art to make it print ready.  

 

The Prepress Supervisor will partner with their Manager on all hiring and disciplinary activities for this group. This individual is responsible for all training, development, and coaching of Prepress Technicians, improving processes and efficiencies along the way. This individual also partners with internal coordinators and monitors production schedules, anticipating and resolving delays and/or identifying art issues before production. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

 

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is essential in this role. The perfect Prepress Supervisor has a critical eye for design, color, and depth perception, and possesses innate best practices related to methods and techniques of graphic design and layout. Mathematical skills and familiarity working with units (e.g. inch, foot, yard, etc.) are necessary for success in this role as well.  Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects is critical. Interpersonal communication, empathy, and listening skills play a big role in the collaborative nature of this Prepress Supervisor. Problem solving and conflict resolutions skills to seek solutions to complex problems are a must.  This disciplined individual needs vision and initiative with the ability to still focus on the details.

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Must have excellent work ethic with high energy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills required
  • Candidates must be hands on, good team players with have great interpersonal skills in order to facilitate proper project management with the production staff
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in the printing industry, and a thorough understanding of electronic prepress for offset, wide format, and digital.
  • Must have expert knowledge of all major graphics packages Adobe Suite, Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Pitstop, and others.
  • Associates degree or higher in Graphic Design
  • Knowledge of web-based programming or programs preferred

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The primary work environment is an office.

The physical demands for this position include light lifting, seeing (with a focus on reading), sitting more than 50% of the time, talking, and walking.
